At Maven, it always kind of surprises us when people ask how we make money. Since we’re so immersed in this business and it is so obvious to us, we’re often tempted to give the First Citywide Change Bank response: “Volume.”
All joking aside, it is a fair question with a pretty simple answer. Our Members get paid whatever they think their time is worth for participating in Consultations, a fixed fee for responding to Surveys, Referral Commissions for inviting others to join Maven, and other fees and bonuses for other types of interactions. We don’t take any money from our Members or charge them any kind of service fees for brokering their interactions with our Clients. Rather, the prices we charge our Clients include a markup that appropriately values the service we provide. Just like a retail store or online marketplace we make the difference between our advertised prices and what we pay our Members.
It’s that simple. If you earn $1,000 from Maven you will be paid $1,000.
